Hi!
Welcome to my blog! A few months ago, I started painting everyday. I opened an Instagram account. I kept it all low key, just a hobby while social distancing. But really, secretly, I would like to be an artist.
Can it be done? I don't know. I started three months ago. I now have close to 1500 instagram followers. People have said nice things about my paintings.
For instance, today,"I love your art so much. This is the types of art I want more of in my life [heart emoji] raw and just like something inside of me that someone else spoke on [heart emoji]"
Like, wow.
This comment was about the image on the right, Dogfish Shark Woman, which is based on the art and stories of the Haida people of the Pacific Northwest (available through Saatchi Art...and stickers and merch available through Redbubble).
And the other day,
"I find your work interesting and important, which is rare..."
Who knew strangers on the internet could be so nice!
In January and also in February I submitted work to online exhibitions through a gallery in Center City (I'm in the suburbs of Philly). This month, my work is being discussed as part of the art salon discussion.
So, I guess I'm an artist now. Would you agree? When does one achieve the title "artist"?
I'm planning on using this blog to share my work instead of relying solely on the evil overlords of social media.
